What could be more valuable, and rewarding, than donating some of yourself? This year, the Harley Davidson of Singapore Annual Christmas Toy Run was held at Yishun SAFRA Club and the charity organisation was Andrew & Grace Home for troubled teenagers. Street Coyotes MC is proud to have donated and participated in this event. AG Home Website
Bear, GR, camera girl & myself met up for brekkie at the neighbourhood coffee shop and the plan was to meet up with the Chief, BB & Mich elsewhere. The plan started to fall apart on the way down PIE after the sky turned from gloomy to grumpy; pouring so heavily that it reminded me of our recent Hat Yai trip. We stopped for cover under a pedestrian overhead bridge rubbing shoulders with other bikers. After spending half an hour waiting for the rain to slow, we continued on and met up with our boys and organisers at the dealership. Chief was there to present our donation and we collected pins for the others.
The convoy started smoothly and there were easily over hundred of bikes ahead of me, neatly lined up like a railway track roaring down the CTE/SLE. Traffic was heavy, we stayed close and other road users had much difficulties entering and exiting the expressway. We had a mission and with the help of the horn and some fingers waving, the marshals from HOG ensured that if you don't ride a HD, please get out of our way!
The sound of the exhaust pipes became louder and that's when I realised that we have arrived Yishun SAFRA club. We were welcomed by the girls and staffs from the charity home and for that short moment we felt like super stars :)
As long as I could remember, Eurasians tended to have the honour of being Master of Ceremony. Warren knew how to make things work for bikers. Introduction for the bowling event was short and sweet, and then buffet was served!
HDS booked the entire venue where we had all 24 bowling lanes to ourselves. I saw smiles on our brother's face and he was quick to gear up for his favourite activity.
Bowling ended around 430pm and the girls from AG flames showed their appreciation with a group drum performance. These were songs that are graced with intelligent, well-played percussion parts and beautifully choreographed.
The director of HOG Singapore Tony Goldman had a few words to thank the sponsors and also the MCs including the Street Coyotes. Prizes and Christmas gifts were also given to the girls.
Our brother was hoping that they ran out of teddy bear as he was more than willing to offer himself.
The girls gathered at the bikes and got on for photo shots. It didn't take long for me to realise that purple colour has higher "chick magnetism" than blue. Not many people have the opportunities to ride or sit on a Harley, let alone these unfortunate teenagers. I heard engine starting and exhaust noise, joy was written all over their faces when they were given a chance to ride on one they never dare to dream of. On the other hand it saddens me to learn that these teenagers were once abused and raped. Every human being deserves to be loved and that's the reason we were there to extend our helping hands.
This is my first time on a Toy Run and there will be many more.
